Transparent Governance Duration of the Project: June 2007 – October 2007 Location of the Project: Charentsavan city, Kotayk Marz Donor of the Project: Counterpart International Armenia Office Assure transparent Governance of Charentsvan LSG or via concrete actions to impact the possibility of ordinary citizens’ participation (if those would like to participate) at Charentsavan Community Council meetings, LSG budget discussions, meetings related to Chrentsavan community land privatization processes. The activities of the Community Council, as a community management and to certain extend controlling body; in many communities has a formal character. To be able to solve these issues it’s important to: 1. Conduct community discussions with participation of LSG representatives, local organizations (trade and non-trade) and community citizens. 2. Mobilize the community citizens (awareness of community citizens through conducting community discussions, broadcasting TV programs, organizing Debates) 3. Establish a Coalition to conduct Public control (enrolling representatives of Mass Media, NGOs, and Community citizens). The TV programme broadcasted on August 30 by „Lusalik” TV channel had an increased interest among the community citizens. The Mayor of the city Mr. Shahgaldyan and a group of young students were invited to participate at the programme. The youth and other citizens had a great chance to address their questions to the Mayor of the city, as the programme was a direct broadcasting. Most of the questions were answered directly. Within the scope of this project an Open Coalition was established in Charetsavan, the Coalition is to conduct public control. The members of the Coalition are representatives of Mass Media and community citizens, who are really concerned to solve the community issues. |
